Size 12 Competition Pink Tungsten Eggs

When the spawn is on, every trout in the river develops a one-track mind — and that track leads to drifting eggs. "Competition Pink" is the shade for when the standard oranges stop working: a hot, saturated pink that reads as a fresh egg in the drift, built on a dense pink metallic tungsten bead that punches the fly into the feeding zone fast, even in heavy autumn flows.
Pink sits in the sweet spot between natural and attractor. It's bright enough to trigger reaction strikes from aggressive fish stacked behind spawning salmon and steelhead, yet close enough to the naturals that pressured trout don't flinch. On cloudy days, in stained water, or on tailwaters where every fish has refused a full parade of orange eggs, this is the color that keeps producing.
In size 12 it fishes as a substantial meal — a strong choice for Great Lakes steelhead runs, tailwater browns shadowing spawners, and stocked rainbows keyed on pellets and eggs alike. Choose barbed or barbless hooks to match your water's regulations and your release ethic.
Dead-drift it deep along gravel bars, behind redds, and through the soft inside seams where trout stack up to intercept the drift. Trail it behind a larger attractor nymph, or fish it as the point fly with a midge on the dropper when fish are feeding at multiple levels. When eggs are the whole menu, this is the pattern that gets ordered twice.
