Size 20 Olive Midges

Midges are the most underappreciated food source in trout fishing — they're on the menu 365 days a year, and in winter and on tailwaters they're often the entire menu. These size 20 olive midges are tied slim and simple the way they should be: fine olive dubbing around the collar, a silver wire rib for segmentation and flash, and a dense tungsten bead that gets this tiny offering down to feeding fish in a hurry.
You get your choice of bead: go metallic green for a natural, imitative presentation when fish are keyed on real midge larvae, or fluorescent green when you want a subtle hot spot to trigger strikes from pressured or deep-holding trout. Both ride on the same proven tie.
Fish them as a dropper behind a larger attractor nymph, or run a pair — one of each bead color — to let the fish tell you what they want. On tailwaters from December through March, this is the fly that keeps the net wet.
